Women often run nonstop. They may feel energetic for several days and get a lot done. However, then they crash and feel like they have no energy to do anything, even to get out of bed. Crashing fatigue is extremely common in females today. Women should not worry that they’re alone if they experience the symptoms of this common disorder.

What is Crashing Fatigue?

Ladies who experience fatigue most days for over three months are likely dealing with crashing fatigue. In 2023, the CDC reported that women are more likely than men to experience this. Many things contribute to this common condition.

Lifestyle factors play a role in crashing fatigue in women, but it may also be related to their menstrual cycle or menopause. Fluctuating hormone levels and underlying health issues can also contribute to this common problem. However, it might also be the result of psychosocial factors.

Invisible labor, for example, may contribute to crashing fatigue. They care for the children and are often caring for aging parents now. Other unpaid care work they may handle includes household chores, children’s activities, household schedules, financial planning, meal planning, and more. The list goes on and on, and the invisible labor can leave a woman feeling fatigued and overwhelmed. She is burned out, and others don’t seem to recognize it.

Lifestyle Factors

Lifestyle factors may contribute to fatigue. Women may not get the sleep they need to remain healthy and happy. They often eat an unhealthy diet as they rush to get everything done, and exercise gets pushed to the wayside. Sadly, these actions can make her feel even more fatigued. She may think she is taking shortcuts to ease her burden when she’s actually harming her health. Women need to ensure they are adequately hydrated, get plenty of sleep, and engage in mindfulness to improve their energy levels.

Sleep is essential, as it allows a woman to recharge and her body to heal. When a woman does not get enough sleep or her sleep is disturbed, she will likely feel tired the next day. Women need a minimum of seven hours of sleep each night, and the sleep should not be disrupted. If sound and light pollution are a problem, a woman needs to eliminate them whenever possible.

A lack of sleep disrupts her circadian rhythm and cortisol production. She may then feel extremely fatigued and find her mood and metabolism suffer. In addition to prioritizing rest, some individuals find that taking an amazon maca supplement can help support energy levels and hormonal balance. Getting a good night’s sleep regularly can further correct these issues.

Women often eat an unhealthy diet because they are constantly rushing around. They reach for high-carbohydrate or sugary foods. While eating these foods may satisfy their hunger, blood sugar levels then spike. Whenever a person’s blood sugar rises sharply, the pancreas responds by releasing excess insulin. This insulin helps glucose enter the cells so the woman can use it for energy. However, excessive insulin rapidly lowers blood sugar levels, resulting in an energy crash. Doctors refer to this as reactive hypoglycemia.

Carbohydrates, when consumed in moderation, are suitable for a person. Women can receive the benefits of carbohydrates without reactive hypoglycemia by pairing them with protein, fiber, or healthy fats. The nutrients found in these items slow the rate at which the body absorbs the carbohydrates into the bloodstream. As a result, her blood sugar levels remain stable. Women should aim to eat protein and vegetables before consuming carbohydrates to minimize blood sugar spikes.

Protein is also needed to help a woman fight off fatigue. A woman needs to determine the right amount of protein for her needs based on her height and weight. A registered dietitian can help a woman make this calculation and learn which proteins will provide her with energy and boost her health.

Women often think they get plenty of exercise by rushing around to accomplish all their tasks. However, they frequently lead a more sedentary lifestyle than they imagine. They then wonder why they feel fatigued. What many people don’t realize is that expending energy while exercising actually energizes a person. It changes the way the body handles glucose and Insulin while flooding the body with endorphins, also known as feel-good chemicals.

Women should strive for approximately 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise each week. However, they also need to incorporate strength training into their exercise routine at least twice a week. Flexibility exercises will also ensure their mobility.

Water is essential for human life. Dehydration leads to fatigue. Many women reach for sugary drinks or juices to quench their thirst. Doing so, however, can actually lead to increased fatigue. Once the drink is consumed, the woman may experience an energy crash shortly thereafter. Women who are highly active or have a medical condition that can leave them dehydrated may need to add electrolytes to their drinks to maintain the right balance in their bodies.

Stress can leave a person feeling fatigued, and a tired person will experience more stress. Chronic stress harms the body by disrupting the normal function of the autonomic nervous system and altering hormone levels. Women need to find a way to manage the stress in their lives, whether it be yoga, exercise, or another hobby.

Hormonal changes within a woman’s body can also lead to fatigue. Some women find themselves extremely fatigued right before they have their period.  Fatigue is also common during perimenopause and menopause.  A woman should talk to her doctor about this fatigue, as hormone replacement therapy or another treatment option might be beneficial.

If a woman cannot pinpoint the cause of her fatigue, it may be time to see a doctor. Many medical conditions can lead to extreme fatigue, including polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis.  Chronic fatigue syndrome and heart disease are other conditions that can bring about excessive fatigue.  Furthermore, the woman may need to be tested for hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, along with vitamin deficiencies.  Finally, sleep apnea can lead to extreme fatigue and must be treated.

Women should not assume their fatigue is just a regular part of being a wife, mother, employee, and child. There may be an underlying cause of the crashing fatigue. With the help of medical professionals, a woman can identify the root cause of her exhaustion and receive treatment so she can have the energy to do not only what she must, but also what she loves.
